Thanked: 0paste ...why don t?..incredibile...
hello people...( i have made my last experiment)....i have read a lot of post..and some people use a paste after coticule and some people don t....i think that depends of a type of beard and razor...i have a very very hard beard!.....
honing my TI i have made this...
20 laps slurry and 20 without...100 on leather livi strop.....driving my razor on my arm at 1 mm of my skin...the razor cut not pretty well.....a few of whiskers.....
the shaving test confirm the arm test..........
after that i have made 30 laps on my green paste of livi strop (12,000 grit)/strop.....and it is a very miracle...a lot of whiskers is grubbed! ...the shave test confirm the arm test....good shave....
i have made another 30 laps on my green paste/strop .....my razor is became a KILLING MACHINE....
what s happend? ...why i shouldn' t use a paste if the results are this?
p.s most people told me that 60/100 laps on green is too much...but not consider that my livi strop is long about 20 cm! and 100 passes on my strop is
similar to 35 passes on a normal strop that is 60 cm long.....Last edited by danzyc; 10-31-2007 at 08:02 AM.

Thanked: 108Well, you learned the main lesson here, which is if it works, do it.
Some guys don't like pastes because apparently the edge doesn't last as long. This is the main reason for paste-skepticism.
Others think that pastes are less 'traditional' than hones. In fact, pasted hangers and paddle strops go back to the 19th century.
I suspect that some guys think pastes are sort of 'cheating'. It takes considerable skill to get not only a shaving edge but a buttery smooth shaving edge from a Norton 8K, which is what Alan does. Whereas "chrome oxide makes a hero out of anybody," as one honemeister put it.

Thanked: 0I like pastes too. They seem to help my honing get the razors to an acceptable level.
BTW, I'm certainly not making fun of your tranlation, but I know the next time I shave I'll be thinking about how "a lot of whiskers is grubbed!" I love it.
Oh, I think it is very worrisome that I've missed this forum as much as I have. Can't be healthy.
