I'm all about the budget shaving. I'd say get a coticule bout.....you can do virtually anything needed with those. And they're quite affordable.

I got a bout from Howard for Christmas, and while I like it, mine is wide but not very long in either direction (only about 4 1/2") which means I have to do a LOT of laps to get the same effect - I'd go with a 6x2 if I had to do it again, IMO.

Hey man! I have your exact setup as your option #2 with the addition of the Norton 220/1k stone (never touched the 220). It's great. The chinese 12k is well worth it. Especially for the price. Guys say there is little end difference between it and the yellow.
