    Default YEEEEEEEESSSS!!!!

I just got my hones in!!! I was a little surprised by the DMT though- it just looks like a sheet of steel. Time to brush up on my research and get to using these things!

I can't find it, but I remember reading something about doing something to the DMT before it's ready. Any idea what I'm thinking of? It's the 1200 continuous

You need to break it in a bit, or it may chip up your edges initially. Get an old razor or an old chisel, or just about anything big, flat and steel, and rub the hone with it for a while. Then do some test strokes with a junky razor to feel for bumps. Keep rubbing the rough areas until the razor travels smoothly over the surface.

Then you're set for the rest of your life.

The DMT is, as one member put it, a utilitarian thing. It doesn't apologize for itself; it's ugly and it's OK with that.

    Default 1200 DMT

I got mine last week at Woodcraft - the 2' X 6" chunk of steel. Very fast cutter as compared to the Norton 4K (as it should be). I have used it on 3 razors and I cannot figure how I have been able to do without it. I am finding that you have to be willing to "go the distance" with this hone and get the bevel truly "hone ready" (really sharp) and then it really is easy to put a nice shaving edge on it with the Norton 4/8.

I couldn't live without my DMTs now for eBay razors. It makes finishing the edge with a Norton, Belgians or whatever a piece of cake.

Great to know. Do I need to use some water on it or no? I think I know just what to use my Zeepk for

Yes, use water. A Zeepk would do this task nicely. Keep the spine flat and just grind away like you're taking out a 1/2" chip.
