Thanked: 416DMT?
Ok guys I have a spyderco fine and ultrafine that I am using to maintain my razors. I am now looking for something for problem razors and for setting a bevel. I have read that the spyderco med. is to coarse for razors so I am looking for a good alternitive, But let me say upfront that the thing I like about the spyderco hone is that there really is little to no maintanace with them. no lapping and no water to make a mess. So what would you recommend? Would a DMT do the job? and if so what grit am I looking for? Also if you have any suggestions as to where is a good place to purchace it would be helpful.

I like my little 2" x 6" D6E (1200 mesh extra fine). The D8E is 3" x 8". I prefer the DMT 1200 over my Spyderco medium (which, IMO, works ok. Mine has been lapped and is a fairly fast cutter w good "scratch pattern").
One vendor here.
EDIT: Don't forget to break the DMT in a bit before using it. (Lap something: hone, chisel back, sorta' flat hunk of steel, etc...)Last edited by Sticky; 02-12-2008 at 10:16 PM.
