Wow,
I'm still having problems with this stone. I emailed norton originally through their website, and never received a reply. Does anyone have their phone number?
I've honed some razors, and they have turned out decent. lapped between each, and today, after I lapped again, the grit and roughness is back.
I've also since bought a norton 220/1000 and being a lower grit, is still smoother than the 4000 side of my 4k/8k.
any ideas?

I had the same complaints untill I went and got the DMT. All is well with the norton now. I think it is flater and more uniform. I also get better performance out of the hone.

If you want to get it good and remove a bit more material to get down below the grit....lap it only damp; not after soakin on wet-dry 320 grit.

I'll try the damp lapping this afternoon. I've lapped this thing so much I don't have much faith.
hoglahoo, thanks for the phone numbers. I'll give them a try and post back my results.
thanks

Just wanted to post an update to benefit anyone else with the same issue in the future.
I tried the damp lapping as suggested and used 220 grit wet/dry and this has seemed, at least temporarily, to rectify the situation so that I can hone a razor with out scratching the blade. I may also try a DMT coarse, but don't want to buy one just yet.
thanks so far for all your help
