    Default Hand American Question? Corian/Felt

At the Ohio roundup Lynn had a felt strop from Hand America. I looked at the website and didn't see the strop or much else. I was also considering the corian base system. Does he not sell direct? Do I have to go through the Japanese knife shop?
If I get the Corian system are there any recomendations on a "starter set"? I have a Nort 4K\8K and a couticule bout that does a good job. I am shaving wit razors I honed. I am just wanting to go to the next level. Will the paste do this for me?

They seem to have outsourced their selling to here.

    Hi Don,
The HandAmerican site is pretty limited as far as access to info (other than what they are featuring). I would recommend calling Keith and ordering that way. I have the corian flat bed hone with rough and smooth leather pads. I have the smooth pads pasted with diamond and the rough pads pasted with boron carbide and chromium oxide. This combination seems to work very well for me. Some guys have switched to the hard felt pads and feel the they work even better. I have a hard felt hanging strop (like Lynn's) and I am happy with that as well. Be forewarned, sometimes HA is slow to ship, but their stuff is very good and worth waiting for (if you can over-come that instant gratification thing that plagues most of us )

I was in a similar boat. My razors are shave ready and HHT passable but I was ready to move onto that extra step. I made two, two sided paddle strops and two 3 inch hanging strops for paste work. In the end, I used half of one paddle pasted with 0.5 chromium oxide. I ran my first strop passes tonight followed by 50 on my shell horse hide and it made a very noticeable difference. The blade glides smoother through standing hair (arm). That may be as far as I go with paste for now.

More info in the Hones, stones and paste, Oh My thread.

Have you ordered that espresso machine yet?

Well I got my stuff from Hand American. I have the base, horse, hard felt, bovine, and water buffalo also a tub of .5 chromium oxide and a tub of 2 micron silicon carbide. Which pastes do I put on which pads? I have the coticule so I am leaning away from the Silicon Carbide. But it may be just the trick? Keep in mind my razors shave pretty good now I am just wanting the next level.

What is the hard felt hanging strop like? What would you compare it to (if anything)?

I didn't get the strop with this order. I droped better than a C on the corian base and four pads didn't want to spend any more. I did however try the felt hanging @ the Ohio roundup. it seems to be a good way to use the .05 chrom. That is what Lynn had on his.
