Magnetized blade and steel hone
I had an interesting experience this AM.
I have a vintage J. Wiss & Sons razor which I picked up from a forum member. I tried to work on the edge on a DMT 8K. The razor was magnetized and stuck to the hone with quite a bit of force, a condition which makes light honing absolutely impossible. I don't own a Norton or other non-steel hone, which would have solved the problem nicely.
Then I remembered a tape demagnitizer form the old days when audio/computer tapes were popular. I got it out, plugged it in and ran it along the spine. Problem solved.
Now if I could just learn how to hone.

Wow bummer. Those old magnetized razors you see became attracted to the red blood cells under your skin and would stick to your face and you were guaranteed the best shave in the world. Now you went and ruined that.

Thanked: 13247OK now I thought it was the other way around, that the iron in the red blood cells was attracted to the magnetic razor, and caused the hair to stand up when they rushed to the skin..... Thus giving the best shave ever.
Bummer that you had to de-magnatize it !!!!!

I often use a magnetic jig to hold blades when I'm cleaning them up, and I remember the first time I took one of those to my DMT. Heh, heh. Good times.
It's not much of an issue for me because I only use the lower-grit DMTs, but I can see how the 8K would pose a bit of a problem.
