Sounds like a gimmick to me, the diamonds used for diamond hones are man-made monocrystalline diamonds, that are as hard as the real thing for all intents and purposes. So making a hone out of black diamonds wouldn't have a (noticeable if ANY) advantage over a regular one, and would probably cost more. But gimmicks sell, so who knows if there isn't already such a thing in the works.

If I am not mistaken "Black Diamond" is referring to the name, and not the material that the hone is made from. Beyond that I know nothing Heir Kamandant.

oh, well there's that option too, i guess. ....

there is such a thing as a black diamond, though, I think they're man-made and can be big enough to use in jewelry but are not as desirable and are much cheaper than the real thing.

A "Black Diamond" is a diamond with SO many inclusions (read carbon particles) that it appears to be black. Like anything else where money is involved the black diamond when very uniform is rather rare so the price is high. Not as pricey as a desirable white diamond but the black is expensive anyway. Considering the fact that black diamonds are structurally inferior to the white and weaker because of it I would think that a item made from them might wear faster. Most "industrial grade" diamonds are between white and black and are just not suitable for jewelry.....

Oh, they occur naturally, I for one wouldn't take my time to make one. GE and the Russians are making whites which they can make more money from....

Yes...it refers to the name. It actually looks like a Arkansas Black, I will come back with pics if I "win" it.

    Default Pictures of the hone

Go the hone today, I attach some pics of it (sorry for the poor quality).

It feels very smooth, almost like my Arkansas black but it feels "softer". Size is 5'*2'*0,5'.

Could it be an old barber hone?
