    Default Nearly there!

Good morning, although my posting no. suggests otherwise, I have been using a straight for several months and was beginning to build up a nice posting number when suddenly I dissapeared! Anyway, starting again, I have two everyday razors, a Thiers Guillocharge and a Livi regrind. I can feel that the livi is a little sharper than the TI. My question is this, both razors give a fine end result except the TI feels a little coarser to get there, particularly on the first pass. Both pass the hht easily. I have had the TI on a Coticule but not the Livi. I also finish with a few laps on a 0.5 diamond pasted paddle. I get no irritation from the shave and achieve 99% bbs. Could it be that the diamond paste is too rough, would a chromium paste be better or are the blades just not sharp enough? I have never used a razor (even the livi new out of it's box) that gave a really smooth first pass. As the TI is Sheffield steel, could it be that this accounts for the difference in feel? Any thoughts?

I like the diamond pastes for finishing. I use the Diamond .5 then the CrO then the last one is the Diamond .25. This has been my best finisher so far.

...sometimes it just takes a bit of time for people to resond.

Thanks guys. Is the chromium smoother than the diamond or is the difference negligable. Does anyone find Sheffield steel harsh or is it more likely the sharpness of the blade?
