twisted bevel?
When I first got my DOVO and got started, I was too excited to notice what appears to be a problem.
With the blade on my hone (DMT D8EE so I know my hone is flat) and the edge facing to the right, if I hold the spine perfectly flat on the hone, the heel of the edge is not touching anything. There is a sort of diagonal rocking axis where if the heel of the edge is touching, it lifts the toe of the spine off the hone, and vice versa.
The spine and edge on the other side of the razor (edge to the left) sit perfectly flat.
I tried working down the toe of the blade, thinking that removing metal from the toe of the edge would bring the heel into contact and produce an even bevel where the spine and edge were both flat on the hone.
I started to notice some significant widening of the bevel at the toe of the edge, and some significant hone wear on the spine, so I stopped and lightly put a shaving edge back on, since this is my only razor. I did notice that there was some improvement in the "rocking" and that the edge is now sharper than it has previously felt like, but I don't want to ruin my first and only straight.
I don't have the money to send it to a hone-meister, or I would. Any suggestions?
All I have is the DMT, and a linen/leather Illinois hanging strop.
Thanks.

Sounds like your blade is warped . I would contact the seller , and ask for a replacement .

Had exactly the same problem last evening with a Dovo that is new. Was going to hone and noticed blade rocking on hone exactly as you describe. I am going to contact seller and see if I can get it replaced.

If you have ever seen the Dovo blade manufacturing video you will notice that before they install the blade in the scales a guy sights down the blade, lays it on several layers of leather ,and gives it a good whack with a rawhide mallet then sights again, and may give another whack or just pass the blade along. He is straightening distortion caused during heat treat, apparently he didnt get yours right.I have done it on a few blades mostly sheffield heavier razors ,and a few solingen hollow grounds,i have broken a few too.It works pretty well Best Regards Gary

Unless you want to try Gary's method, I recommend like others, to send it back. My very first NEW razor, a TI had the same problem. After hours and hours of honing and just watching the uneven spine wear just creep larger and larger and the edge not really get any flatter and.....me wanting to throw it against the wall (I restrained myself), I figured out what you have. I'm very big now on the idea of sending a new razor back.
Incidentally, I bought that TI last year and taking my own advice, last week I shipped it to TI in France with a note. I was OK with spending the money. We'll see what happens.....

Thanks for the advice everyone. I've contacted the seller to see what they want to do about it.
Honestly I'm not super concerned, because it shaves better than a cartridge razor ever did, so I haven't really lost anything. It's just a matter of not gaining quite all I could have...
I plan on getting another razor before too long from the BST section, just to compare a shave-ready razor done by someone with more experience and more tools to what I've been able to do with my DOVO on my DMT.

Sorry Chris,I guess Im not too good at explaining,I would definitely send it back too.I was just trying to explain why this is such a common
defect.I agree with you the manufacxturer should replace this razor. In my opinion a new razor shouldn't take more than a few strokes on a 4K hone to establish the proper platform Sorry for the confusion.Best Regards gary

Thanked: 5Crazy...I didn't know they tapped them into alignment, I sort of figured they just ground them into final shape then polished.
