This seems like a good deal
Peachtree Woodworking Supply looks like they have a decent deal on a Norton waterstone package. Comes with a 220/1000, a 4000/8000, a flattening stone, cases for all the stones, instructional DVD and a large waterstone tray with no slip bottom. All for $120.
Anyone done business with these guys before? The deal sounds too good to pass up, but I wanted to get some second opinions on this before I spring for it.
Or would it just be better to get a 4k/8k with flattening stone for $93 from The Perfect Edge?Last edited by CRuzin; 03-29-2008 at 05:06 PM.

Sounds like a good deal to me. I've never dealt with them though.

The order came in today. Came with everything specified on their site. I'm good to go on the hones now. If anyone else is looking for a good Norton waterstone deal, try these guys out.

IN fact, i'm not sure i've ever had a stone that was flat out of the box, i've had kings, shaptons, suehiros and a norton.

I'm going to try them out today on a razor I bought yesterday from an antique mall. I've read that I should always flatten a new stone before using it.

No surprises. These definitely weren't flat. The 4k side was very close, but the 8k side took me a couple minutes to get flat.

I have zero honing experience and am using a pretty beat up razor to practice with. That said, after 10-15 minutes I had it cutting hairs off my arm. It's still not quite sharp enough to shave with, but I'll keep practicing.
