If you spend hours a day at the hone it seems like a super idea but for typical use doesn't it seem like overkill? I find a few drops of water every now and then works. Of course this may be the first step in the development of an automatic honing system and you might be the Bill Gates of Honing.

If you wanted to use a pump and not worry about wear, you could set up a large container of clean water, hook up a tube, have the water flow over the stone and run off into another container or drain. You'd have to make sure the clean water container doesn't run dry, but I'm asuming you'd have a low flow rate. That said, I thing honing under a faucet that's set very low would be easier, provided you have a large sink/tub/etc.
My background in pumps and tubing is computer related, so I've seen some crazy setups when it comes to tubing.

Thanks for all the responses guys...I guess it is a bit of overkill...and I have to agree that it would be more fun building it than it would be using it. Alright, well...off to writing a paper

Now we get to the root of the issue. I'll do anything to avoid writing, too, and I'm a writer.
This thread was good for a chuckle. I love the thought process and ingenuity, even if it's probably a bit over the top in this case.
Keep it up--I'm putting my money on you to develop that automatic honing system.

Quote:I can't wait until the day I'm finally in the operating room, the nurse hands me a scalpel...and I check it to see if it passes the thumb nail and HHT test...then I proceed with throwing the scalpel out, taking out my own straight razor and strop, and remembering everything I was taught on SRP.
Hope you soaked it in Barbercide the night before

Thanked: 4One more problem, this would wash away any slurry, making it a slower hone.

I hope you try it.
I've seen and used "dumb" ideas that flourished into something valuable.
Please do pursue this and take pics.
