It's inevitable: Sooner or later, you'll have to learn how to sharpen your razor. You've come to the right place.

Honing can be an overwhelming subject because there are so many different approaches that work well. Everyone has a favorite technique or piece of equipment, and often the advice you receive seems to contradict.

Here are a couple of quick tips for getting your learning experience off to a good start:

Skim down through the topics in this FAQ index. We've selected some of the most informative threads from the SRP archives. This index is a textbook that will help you focus on basic concepts before you branch off into more complicated ones.

Make use of the Search function. SRP has an excellent Search function, and it's free. You have access to thousands of posts from members with years of experience. Tap into that knowledge. Hint: By using the Advanced Search function, you can choose to search only in a particular sub-forum. This will help you eliminate unrelated hits and find the info you want.

Try to ask informed questions. The members of this site love helping people learn, but you'll get better information if you do some homework first. Show that you're putting in some effort to learn and others will go the extra mile to help you out.

Don't hesitate to contact your moderators. The moderators for this forum, JoshEarl and OLD_SCHOOL, are here to help. Let us know if you have questions about forum rules or honing.

    Good luck!

Just a small update on changes here. Bruno has taken on more responsibilities recently, so I have stepped up to replace him as a moderator in the honing section. I will be working along side, Josh, and look forward to helping you all.
