Default First attempt at honing, need help

    Hi Everyone,
I just started to practice honing with an antique shop razor that was in good nick but blunt. I got my norton 4k/8k a week ago so was keen to try it out.

Now i know there is going to be another post like this so if someone reads this and knows where to find it a link would be great

The problem I have is that the point is more worn than the rest of the blade, i.e. there is more metal from the spine to the heel than spine to point, so it does not pass the marker test and the TNT is only good up to the last third of the edge.

SO... How do i go about fixing it? I remember seeing a video where the guy put slightly more pressure on one part of the blade but I can't remember which side of the razor to do this to; the point or the heel?

I'll see about getting a picture but I'm sure most will know what I'm talking about

    Any help is appreciated guys,

    Ed

is the edge straight, or curved (a.k.a. smile)?
you are saying that when you lay the razor flat on the hone not the whole edge is in contact, with it, correct?
i'd say you should find a better razor to learn, once you have a handle on honing a good edge you can decide if you want to learn honing edges like this. it seems to me that complicating things unnecessarily is not the optimal way to learn.
