    Default If newspaper works...

If stropping on news paper can work to put a bit of a finishing touch on an edge, what about something a little corser, like cardboard? Would stropping on something like corrigated cardboard work like a slightly coarser hone than news paper, do you think?

Could any harm be done in trying it?

I think the problem might be keeping contact through the stroke on cardboard. Try it and let us know.
I have heard adding cigar ash to the newspaper does wonders.

Its really the ink that hones the razor not the paper itself.

You'd have to add something to the cardboard, Like ash as mentioned.

I would try the lid to a gift box (brown side). That may work out better then something corrugated.

COBO !.....I love a good cigar more than anyone !

Now let's talk about this honing stuff.......Why would you want to go from "finer to courser" ".......(ie, paper to cardboard) ?

You're going the wrong way my friend !

A week ago, I would have said that you need to "set the bevel" with a 220/1000...........then work to the 4000/8000.......and so on.

I just got a load of vintage barber-hones from Tilly......and I got a "news-flash" for you Bro........Straight Razors don't require NEARLY the aggresiveness to sharpen as you may think !

Just a gentle sliding on the hone does it !

If you're restoring a razor, OK....maybe the 220 or the 1000 Norton is needed........but in my opinion, an 8000 Norton, a yellow coticule, or one of the vintage hones will keep you shaving happily for years to come !
