I have two Norton stones the 220/1000 and the 4000/8000 I have use all sides in restoring or sharpening and I have noticed on the 4000 grit (white) side it some times feels like there is a hard grit or something in the stone. I have lapped it several times to keep it true and sometimes it is more noticable than otheres. Is it contaimanation from other grit or is something in that white stuff?

I am thinking of buying a DMT D8EE as I have read in the posts that it cuts as quick as the 4000 grit sie of a Norton but polish's like the 8000 side? Any advice? What about the Sharpton 16000 for final polishing stone and skipping the purchase of the DMT?

Thanks,

Tim
