Canadian Stone
What kind of stone is this?
http://www.barbershop.no/shop123vare.../image_570.jpg
Our local store here have these supposedly for sharpening razors, but no-one can find any information about grit size and the like, So I wonder, do anyone know something about this one?
The only information we have is that it is made from Canadian Stone, and it is Silicon Carbide.
(Sorry, I don't know how to make the picture show, so you have to open the link...)

Thanked: 351I've seen this hone offered on another shaving site but honestly, I don't think I'd recommend it... for one thing, I don't know of a single Canadian who has one!
Seriously, it looks like your typical 2 sided Silicon Carbide knife sharpening stone (and the box describes it as a "Sharpening Stone" and not as a Razor Hone) and it's most likely too coarse for a razor but it's hard to tell from such a picture. Considering the number of Gents on this board and the fact that I've never seen it mentioned here would suggest you should keep looking for something else. I have a coarse silicon carbide hone myself but it's used as a grading stone for my Tormek sharpening station. It is used to alter the surface coarseness of the Tormek Aluminum Oxide wheel and it's very tough compared to the wheel.
