Thanked: 7HHT??
Alright guys... at what grit hone can you guys mow hair?(1/4 inch above arm and pop them, much like the hht). 1K,4K, 8K??? I've got one that I'm honing now that barely pops them off. Its a 8/8ths Friodur, and from everything I've read on here, they can get "scary" sharp. I finished with a Norton 8k so far, and I'm sure a few more strokes on the 4k and 8k will do alot better, just trying to be careful not to over do it . I'm almost positive that I honed a different razor about a month ago and it was popping them cleanly off after the 4K, and then just gave it a few rounds on the 8k to polish it up. What are your experiences??

Stainless Steel is a bit harder to get there. Same general rules though.

Thanked: 2209I would use the 8K for an arm hair test but that is just my way. I rarely use that test anymore.

You can get the DMT E 1200 to mow hair without too much trouble. It depends on the razor to a degree.
The mow hair test gives me a somewhat reliable positive and a very unreliable negative (my arm hair is rather fine). I depend on the TPT as being more informative and consistent, for me anyway.Last edited by Sticky; 06-06-2008 at 06:17 AM.

Thanked: 150You may have finer arm hair then face hair, so a blade that does very little to arm hair could still be great on your face. The grit that the HHT occurs at is also very subjective to the variables of your methods, so just make the blade as fine as you can and give it a test shave.

The arm hair test works best for me. Arm hiar test positive off the 5K Shapton always and off the 1.5K Shapton more often than not. But I still polish uisng higher grit hones after the 5K. The ease at which the hairs pop does improve while going up the grit ladder.
