Thanked: 1212Tuskin,
If you were trying to learn how to ride a bike, would you make your endeavors on a bike with elliptical wheels and missing chains?
Even if you learned something about such a vehicle in the end, you wouldn't have learned much about riding a bike.
You are waisting you time with that Zeepk. Any Ebay razor that's not chipped or honed in a frown, will be a better and cheaper razor to learn honing, and would give you probably even a great shave, once you do.
I don't mean to sound disrespectful, in fact you are displaying a great deal of perseverance. I admire that and I think it's a good quality for any aspiring straight shaver, but it's time to accept the mistake of buying those Zeepks and get to business.
Written with only the best of intentions,
Kind regards,
Bart.

Thanked: 0hahahaha - no disrespect taken
I should be getting a razor (good one) soon, but it's shave worthy and I wont want to practice honing on it until I HAVE to... especially with my results on this attempt. I will still give this another attempt after I lap the hone. I just dont have anything else to work on atm - maybe if I see something on ebay (chipped or just bad looking I'll post it up somewhere and find out if ppl say its worth the time and effort to restore.)
thanks for the advice - it did not fall on deaf ears. I am about finished on these razors

Thanked: 1212It takes one to know one, they say about donkeys and other smart, yet stubborn animals in my mother's tongue.
If that Zeepk has the same disastrous alloy / heat treatment as many of its brothers, the edge might crumble away, even before it starts gaining some sharpness. This might lead you to jump all the wrong conclusions about your honing method.
Ebay member Stamps222 sells "Double Arrow" razors. They're a Chinese brand, and although crappy finished, a few well respected members here have testified that the steel and grind is very good. They're the cheapest thing around, if you want to fumble with some new razors. I have 8 of them on the way, so I'm about to find out for myself if they're any good. eBay.be: Famous Double Arrow straight razor. Sharp as a...razor. Have fun,
