    +1 for Goo Gone. I've never used it in this scenario, but it's never failed to remove anything I've used it on.

    +1 the WD-40 takes it right off just spray some on a piece of TP and off it comes, I have had no ill effects on the scales either which I am not so sure on with some of the other harsher chemicals...

    Good suggestions! What I found effective is to first oil the blade, let it set a minute then wipe it off. The tape will still stick but almost no residue to clean up.
