Thanked: 22Are you sure that's an Escher and not just a slate backing typically found on Coticules?
I'm just asking, coz I have little experience with either.
Hopefully someone else will chime in soon.

I know the coticules Howard sells are backed by slate which of course is grey. I find the coticule and escher perform very closely. I find some razors seem to prefer one over the other though I don't know I would say one is universally better than the other.

Thanked: 2209Hello Bud!
It is good to see you posting here. The Belgian you have is a vintage coticule with a natural belgian back side that is approx 4000-6000 grit. The newer coticules are backed with a solid piece of slate that cannot be used for honing. I know that you have some nice Eschers. Maybe some day I will find a large green Escher like the one you sent me to try out!Randolph Tuttle, a SRP Mentor for residents of Minnesota & western Wisconsin
