    Default Barber's Hone Question.

I have a little devil that I got at the NC meetup and I was wondering if anyone has any info on them. What is the deal? What would be a fair price to sell it at if I decide to part with it?

Its only worth about a dollar, you should send it to me... you pay the freight of course! I have heard of them but have never see them up close, dont know a thing.... hence the forum name and avatar.

Actually I used to have one. They are on the coarse side. I've been told they are good for lapping other barber hones.

I had one also. Thats how I found out that some were a solid grit all tru the hone and others, like mine, were just glazed with an abrasive. Once I lapped it the abrasive grain went away.

I am guessing that made it pretty much worthless?

So lapping a Little Devil is a bad idea?

You would be taking a chance on removing the abrasive grit.
They used to sell for a nice amount on Ebay.
They are a coarse stone. Might be used to set a bevel.

Now I'm confused. I believe Scott told me in person that he hones all his razors using this stone. And I think I've read on this forum that the Little Devil can be used to sharpen razors, not just set the bevel. Am I mistaken?

The 2 Little Devil hones that I have had were definitely not suitable as a finishing hone, they are far to coarse. I rated mine as approx 1000 grit. Yours may be different?
