cancer
Everything causes cancer... doesn't it??? Carrots cause cancer, ever known someone with cancer who HASN"T had carrots? blegh, i SERIOUSLY doubt that any of us handle chromium oxide enough to be overly concerned. maybe worry if your poring it into open wounds, snorting it, breathing particles in, wiping it in your eyes...
if worried about it, put on gloves (snag some from the dr. next visit) tap small amount into bowl, and put into liquid medium so that particles don't float around everywhere. smear onto strop, balsa wood, whatever. should be alright.
my 2 cents.

Thanked: 2209The only abrasive I concern myself with is the air borne dust from grinding/sanding. That stuff gets into your lungs and causes all kinds of problems. Wear a mask. The chrome ox, aluminum oxide, diamond etc that I use on a pasted paddle strop cause me no concern.

Chemicals schmemicals! I grew up on a farm/ranch using DDT and many other 'bad chemicals'. Have been handloading my ammo for over 30 yrs. Spent a lot of time in semiconductor fabs. According to all of the 'expert reports' I should have been dead or incapacitated years ago .

I think they put that in the msds because under extreme conditions they found these effects. That is under extreme conditions. I would still be safe though.
