Thanked: 2209Howard Schechter & Bruce Aune......
Well today was a very good day. One of our SRP guys, Bruce Aune,
went to the Minneapolis airport and picked up Howard Schechter of Theperfectedge.com and then came over to my place.
What did we talk about? Hones, hones and more hones! I dragged out a few of my hones and we talked for a long time.
In the pics Howard is on the left and Bruce Aune is on the right. Here is a link to the 3 pics.

Howard was quite knowledgeable about the geology of natural hones and explained the "blush" in some of the coticules. He is an interesting and easy person to talk with and I hope he comes back again. Next time we plan on stopping at Mike Blues workshop and bother him for awhile!
I want to thank Bruce and Howard for stopping at my place. I really enjoyed the company!Randolph Tuttle, a SRP Mentor for residents of Minnesota & western Wisconsin

I've never seen so many hones in one place. That is amazing. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Thanked: 79Well, suddenly I know why one seldom sees the "good" hones come up on the 'Bay....
Randy has them all.
I vote for a road trip.
Sorry Randy...shouldn't have laid out the treasure like that...

Great photos Randy ! Thanks!
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 2209I only brought out the Coticules, Scottish hones, Japanese hones, Silkstones, Thuringan/Escher/German waterstone hones, slate hones, and a couple of mystery hones. I did not bring out the barber hones, waterstones ( Norton, King, Kityama, etc), Arkansas stones, Spyderco's, Carborundums and other mystery stones. The table is not strong enough.

I want to thank Bruce for taking time off of work to pick me up at the airport and then meeting up with Randy. It's always great to meet SRPers in person and actually have a face to face conversation. That hone collection you see is a great collection and Randy graciously allowed me to take some pix to put up on my Hone Museum page. There were hones that none of us could identify, many we marveled over, and together we balanced out some holes in each of our knowledge about belgian, japanese, german, american, and scottish hones. I look forward to coming back to Minneapolis and also want to extend an invitation to Bruce and Randy and all other SRPers to come by for a visit when in Massachusetts.

I keep thinking of a waiter walking around with a platter full of hones. "Hone sir? "Yes, I'll have the Scottish, thank you".
Sorry, I just woke up...
