Thanked: 271Paddle strop - 4 pastes - which order?
I'm playing around with a 4-sided paddle strop with these 4 pastes:
A green stick from Mastro Livi (Chromium Oxide?)
Dovo Red
Dovo Black
.25 micro diamond paste from Classic Shaving
I'm confused about which order to use them in, or I should skip one or two. Can anyone help?

Well, I can half help - the Dovo red is coarser than the Dovo black. I think CrO is even finer than the Dovo Black...I have no idea about the .25 micron, but that seems tiny to me...

Thanked: 150The usual setup is:
1 micron diamond
.5 micron diamond
CrO (.5 micron, but smoother than the diamond stuff)
Clean leather
But you can use anything that you like.
Many people find the .25 diamond paste to be too harsh.

Thanked: 13249The pastes you have would be in this order
Dovo Red approximately 3-5 micron
Dovo Black approximately 1-3 micron
.50 Green Cr
.25 Diamond
I am assuming that you also have a plain leather hanging strop
Also as stated above the .25 can be a little harsh when used on the wrong razors, on others it will give the most incredibly smooth shave you can ever get, so ya gotta play with that...Last edited by gssixgun; 08-06-2008 at 07:06 PM. Reason: added dovo grits

Thanked: 267I have found that 0.25 diamond to be best for really good hard steels in say like a 1/4 grind. I strop about 75 laps off 0.25 and find that this makes the blade less harsh. I personally like the 0.25 sharpness but some, no matter how smooth, don't like razors that sharp. It is a matter of taste I suspect.
