thats a good point, but if the strop is able to roll up and kiss the edge when 1 degree(-) ie the blade is laying more flat- on a flat hone the edge would not touch- how much more so when hone and strop angle are the same
obviously it works so I am making too much of it

Thanked: 2209I would recut the edge and use tape. The reason is that you do not know how much the edge has oxidised over the years. The second is that you do not know what stroke the other person used nor the condition of the hone they used.
I always recut the bevel and make it my own.Randolph Tuttle, a SRP Mentor for residents of Minnesota & western Wisconsin

Thanked: 150+1
It's really best to start fresh. It gives the least amount of variables because you know exactly how the bevel was formed. That way, if something is amiss in the test shave, you are more prepared to assess the situation.

OK, so I inked up the existing bevel with a marker and took it to a 12k for a few laps without taping her up.
After about 3 round trips, that ink was gone !
Thanks for the input, guys. I do appreciate it.
