Don't sell yourself short! The progression you are following is very logical and effective and it's very likely that your results are absolutely first class. If you purchase other razors, you will find that some are more difficult to hone than others (i.e., take more laps on the stone) but I'm sure you will learn and adapt. Congratulations.
