Randy 1 st picture is middle picture .
2 and 3 rd is right side of the stone
4-5 left side.
kinda big stone.
i took middle picture to show the red spot

Did you recently get that on ebay?

I remember seeing a big stone like that on ebay, I figured it was a Coticule and meant to bid on it but let it go.

Either way, it looks like a neat old stone, have you tried it out yet?

My vote is for a coticule as well.

Yeah, garnet or some sort of inclusion.

Hi Bud!

Guys, Bud sent me a PM saying that he was experiencing some blade chip out with this stone but he could not find the location of the presumed inclusion. He said he would post a pic here.

Bud, I would take a razor blade and start going across the stone in multiple directions to find the bad spot, then dig it out. If you find the bad spot, take it out, and still more bad spots come to the surface after lapping then you will have to conclude that the hone has to many bad inclusions.

HI i did lapped it again and finally the bad spot is gone.i did try another razor and didn't brake down the edge.i assume it should have some metal chips in it and that was the reason it was braking down the edge.This is fast cutting stone i haven''t seen belgian soo fast cutter one.May be belgian has so maney different type that is the reason.

If it's not a coticule (which it really looks like it is to me) it could be some kind of Japanese stone, some of the strata are similar to that color.


Otherwise, the only thing that matters is that it works!

Its very hard to tell by the pictures, so I could be mistaken, but I don't think its a Japanese hone. Bud's description of its abilities make it sound great but those patches on the surface, in my limited experience would most likely be very detrimental to razors.

Bud, after lapping it, how does it look? Could we see some new pictures?

this is more pictures.i am getting really sure about this is not belgian.color isn't exactly white.it is seems like tree instead of stone.has a lot nodules +red garnet.MY conclusion is this
stones + hones have been used more then 100 years and soo maney different types out there we have no idea.we think escher belgian or japan katayama if i am not mistaken names is the best stones because they have names etc.what i have seen from this stone i am getting really confused.it is very very fast cutting stone and put excellent final edge to the blade.i would say after my brown stone and this stone i can go straight to the strop and shave.that blade is shave ready.i will put up picture of blade which i was struggling to put final edge you will see by using this stone i did make that blade shave ready i will post picture of it next.Any suggestions are welcome .i am sure more people out there knows alot more then me about stone.i like to talk about them and find their quality etc.my be this is some kinda sickness (additciton to the stones)????
