    Default Chromium Oxide

I was looking at Keiths site at HandAmerican and saw that he wont be able to get the same quality of chromium oxide anymore, so if you have been thinking about getting a container from him, It probably will last you a very long time ask Chris a little goes a very long way, i would get it soon

I can vouch for going a long way...
Have a container that I got from Hand American about 10 years ago. It's still over half full and it is a small container.

The formula for Chromium Oxide is Cr2O3 this product doesn't say what it is.

It says it's 0.5 micron, it should do the job.

Even if this product is advertised for polishing rocks I don't see why it couldn't be used on razors. Pretty cheap at $13 a pound.

Well are CrO or CrO2 green?

Well CrO2 seems to have been used in many magnetic media, and I don't remember green audio tape.

I can not seem to find any resources for the colors of other oxides of chromium.

It is a chromium oxide used for polishing that has been rated at .5 micron. I would be supprised if it was something significantly different, other than possibly not as tight controls on grain size or overall purity.

Audio tape is highly processed so whatever the native color of the stuff was it was probably changed in the process. As you add 0 to the chrome its hard to say what the color changes might be. Iron depending on the Fe and 0 can be red, black, brown. The mineral chromium which is the ore for chrome is actually black.

I'd bet that it is just as good. It's also interesting to me that they have 0.5 micron aluminum oxide as well.

Some people say that diamond compound at 0.5 micron leaves a much rougher feel than chromium oxide at the same particle size. I wonder how the aluminum oxide would do.

Some of them have quoted a .03 micron aluminum oxide

    such as here

Diamond is harsher because you are dealing with xtls and the stuff is really hard while CrO or alumina are rounded particles and the material is softer. If you use alumina get levigated alumina so the stuff doesn't clump together which alumina has a tendency to do.
