good post id like to see the answer to this one myself, i have a 1200 grit i got the other day, to break it in i used it on the spyderco hones i have to see how flat they were, the 1200 did a nice job with them flattened all 3 in an hour or so, i cleaned it using a brush and powdered cleaner but that didnt work very well, i sparpened a few meat cleavers i had lying around also it feels a bit smoother and almost broken in, i might have to try a cold chisel on it too as there are a few rough spots left, but it wont come clean by following the instructions that came with it, i want to add that when i used it on my spydes i rinsed frequently while doing them and kept a lot of water on it so i wouldnt mess it up

If it simply needs to be scrubbed clean you can safely use a pumice stone and water to clean it up. My 325 also does not cut anywhere near as well as my 1.2k but that's because I wore it down lapping a Spyderco UF. The diamonds are still there and they lap softer things like my shapton hones, coticule and soft steel but some large surface area hardened steel cutters I have just skate across the surface.

I should mention that the surface appearance of these hones *will* change with use due to the chromium coating becoming slightly abraded by the swarf/grit slurry that develops. It's normal and of no concern but if you have some gunk building up and clogging the diamonds so they can't do their work, then clean as above.

    Regards

    Christian

Scouring powder works well for cleaning DMT plates. In the U.S., we have a mild scouring powder that works very well known as "Bon Ami".

Use a nylon or bristle brush to really scrub. Do this a few times and the DMT will feel like a newer plate for you.

I simply take a cheap synthetic hone that I bought at a flea market, and then scrape one of the short edges back and forth on the DMT surface until it is clean again.
