Thanked: 0King Japanese stones
Anybody have experience with these? Woodcraft sells several, 6K , 8k and a combination 1200/8000 that look like maybe good value if they work. Thanks.

I have the 1200/8000. It's great. lot's cheaper than the norton, and just as good. i use the 1200 for bevel setting, and the 8000 is a heck of a good polisher before moving to a swaty or something.
be aware that you are going to have to lap this one a LOT, especially the 1200 side, it dishes out pretty quick. I lap mine with a dmt325, it's a breeze.

Thanked: 11ditto jockey's post. I have a 4k - excellent, but does 'dish' quickly. then again a DMT 325 flattens it just as easily....
Good value stones.

i have the 800/4k and the 6k. the 800 is great for me setting the bevel. and i go from the 4k king to the 8k norton. no reason other than ease of going back and forth during pyramids. the 4k king is softer to me it seems. but as nurse said, it laps easily.
good luck.
