    Default out of the blue.

I thought of adding the question to an ongoing discussion, slightly off topic there so here.

How "similar" are aoto and blue belgian. or if you prefer you may answer with how different they are.

I have an aoto but not the Belgian

Alas, and I have a Belgian blues and not an aoto! I've been meaning to buy one though and probably will quite soon. I've been on a stone binge within the last week (purchased 3 stones this week!).

I have both, they are very different.

The belgian blue is a hard, slow cutter, at approx 6k grit while my aoto is a very soft, medium to fast cutter at approx. 3k, maybe a little higher if you let the slurry build up (the particles fracture and become finer, more applicable with something like plane irons but it could happen for a heavy wedge too).

I really don't use my blues very often anymore, 6k is just a grit range that I haven't needed to make use of on a regular basis.
