Jimmy, I wish you the best of luck but don't hold your breath. That hone does not look very fine to me. It's got a lot of chips and roughness about it.

Yes it may look better after a clean up, but there are usually no guarantees. It looks a bit of a gamble to me.

Natural hones are not every bodies choice. It is a specialist market for fanatics. Many straight razor shavers won't even know what an Escher is never mind what color it is.

So if you buy it, there is no guarantee you will get your money back.

Many professional honers (ie they make a living by honing razors for paying customers) prefer a hone that can be replaced when it gets old. They like consistency and reliability and they usually like 8"X3" or larger hones because they do the job quicker.

Now if you can get it for $100, you have got a bargain. At $300+, I agree with Chris, that's about what it's worth.

    Sorry to sound negative, but......

At 100$ it would be a steal
at 200$ it would be a good deal
at 300$ it would be the price you would pay on ebay, approximately.

I resemble that remark I already have one that I got on ebay for $260.00. It is in great shape in the box with slurry stone. The seller didn't mention the end label so it didn't attract much attention. The way the economy is now any stone is a tough sell. Even when it is good it depends on having at least two fanatics bidding against each other. If hi_bud_gl buys it he will have a great hone if it is anything like mine. Here is mine next to a blue/gray.

No bottom label. Nice size. Somewhat chewed up on the edges which naturally can be lapped off. I would say $300-$350 U.S. dollars tops.

Why? Yes we see Eschers fetch high prices on Ebay from time to time, but IMO the values of Eschers overall have seemed to stagnate a bit. I believe to some degree there has been an Escher correction if you will. Perfect example: Don's very nice Escher he had in both the classifieds and on Ebay simultaneously for $400 did not sell on either place. That stone, although not a "light green" was in superior condition with labels almost completely intact.

And, the way I took your statement rather than meaning that if one of US want to buy the stone for higher than what you were willing to pay, I assume you meant that there is already more than one person interested in that stone and if that person offers the seller more than you, they would buy it, correct?

Although, NOT A FANATIC-I bought Don's Escher for $375.If you want one-that's what they cost. It's that simple. I agree, the stone pictured isn't a perfect specimen-but it is light green

Don had two for sale. The one I make reference is the other one. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that.

You are right Chris. As we speak blaireau has one in the classifieds in pristine condition for $425. It is a B/G and I can say firsthand that it is a beauty. Gugi has what I think is a dark blue for sale @ $175.
