Schist and slate are closely related. They're both metamorphic rocks, only to a different degree. Schist often encompasses larger crystal structures, such as garnet. Slate does not.
For those interested, here's a website that offers a good basic explanation on rocks and minerals: Geology - rocks and minerals

Well, slate and schist are similar only in that they are metamorphic rocks. Slate is derived from shale which is a sedimentary rock while schist comes from mica's which are igneous.Slate is from really fine particles mostly clay or silt like while mica though it weathers into a muddy mess is chemically different though not radically.

@Bart: any news about the translation of the work of Charles Gaspars work ? I know that we have a lot of people here coming from france...isnt there a chance that some of our members might be interested to do a translation to spread out the information for the interested ?

    What about:
Thaeris, Gillaume, Antoine46, etc...is nobody of you guys interested to help a bit on this project ?
Would be great if it would be possible to completely translate the work of Charles Gaspar....

Thread is 6 years old, and the gentleman in question hasn't been active here in years.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I could always give a hand for the translation, if someone secures a copy of the booklet

Hi Michael, i would appreciate if you will take part on the project....so we probably need more people so if you might know some other people which might be interested please feel free to ask them....

Up to Date the project is just in an re-activation phase, i have to wait until Bart can provide the document and a certain "workspace". Details will be communicated when everything is set up.....in an seperate Topic in each of the boards....so THIS WILL BE NO EXPLICIT SRP Project, just no name it here

...the projects goal is to re-activate the idea behind it to translate that smal book from French to English and and make this interesting Document available for others. So i personally would appreciate if the people which will be gathered are from all the known shaving boards...i want that thing beeing a big community thing....

So if anybody is interested i would appreciate a short "IAM IN"...so i might get an overview of the people showing an general interest to this Idea...
