Agreed! They do look huge too, enough so that you could probably hone on the side surface comfortably and have the thing last FOREVER without cutting it up!

I don't have forever Philly. As a narrow hone man- do you feel 30mm is a comfortable width?

When they make such a high tech stone do they have an orientation that would limit the effectiveness if used on the side surface. (Inside of the side on a recut.)

30mm is 1.1811024 inches. I would hone on that. The width of my Shapton Pros cut in half lengthwise is about 1.35 inches give or take a hundreth. I think the DMT 4 inch hones are like 3/4" and you could use them for razors. So yes, that's a fine width IMO.

With synthetics it is all the same as long as the stone isn't like glass on the bottom or a diamond plate kind of thing. i.e. Nortons are the same material on all sides. Granted I haven't seen the Choseras in person but I would put money down that it is 100% hone. Some guys do in fact use a lot of stones on their sides for honing if they want a narrower surface. So basically I have never heard of a company limiting the "side-use" or anything of synthetic hones in that respect.

    Alex,

I think it's 100% hone all the way through and on all sides.

You would cut four good narrow hones out of one off the shelf hone and the material is quite soft, so it would be easy.

It'd be interesting to see how they stack up to shapton. Anyone ?

English, what are the dimensions of the included slurry stone?

You could cut 4 stones approx: 8 1/4" x 1 3/8" x 5/8" out of one 10k stone. This does not account for the kerf of between 1/16" & 1/8".

For a narrow hone, I would be perfectly satisfied with such dimensions. Could the slurry stone be cut into quarters of usable size is what I'm wondering.

So......approx $280 for the stone shipped. And $31.95 to rent the saw (for me) would make for approx $80 per quarter stone.

I think it would actually be tough to find me and three others to pay for four narrow Chosera 10ks at $80 + shipping out to the end user. That would leave no profit for my time or discount the cost of my quarter stone which for something like this, I would actually be perfectly fine with. But, what if the sucker crumbled like one of the three barber hones I cut in my recent wet saw experiment? Can you imagine? You international guys could hear me yelling from across the big pond.

Chris, I'd want no less than a half- you know you'd probably never need to buy another that way! Also, at Rasurpur.de they are like 94 euros (for an international buyer) plus shipping, which translates to around $117 plus shipping. That's a lot cheaper.

Also, I know a guy with the saw. So I wouldn't have to pay.
