SWMBO laid down the law; I had to severely cut my honing budget. So after reading http://straightrazorpalace.com/basic...de-review.html I ordered the 3M films. I received them yesterday:

40 micron film (for lapping my Franz Swaty stone)

15 micron film (for bevel setting)

5 micron (4k equiv)

1 micron (8k equiv)

Then I have my Franz Swaty stone.

Just have a couple of newb questions before I get to work. After I lap the Swaty stone with the 40 micron film, should I then lap it with the 15, 5, and 1 as well?

I have also ordered a four sided pasted paddle strop from Tony. I'll be putting 1.0 (don't know why I duplicated this, since I already have the 1.0 3M film), 0.50, and 0.25 diamond paste on it, then use the fourth side unpasted, as a normal leather strop. I've ordered this paddle strop, but it hasn't sihipped yet.

So to keep me busy until then, I'm wondering about how to best use the stuff I already have. I have two razros that are dull. So I'm planning on setting the edge with the 15 micron film, then doing pyramids, etc., til I'm done with the 1 micron level. Should the Swaty stone be used *after* the 1 micron level? If so, what paste would I then start with after the Swaty?
