Thread: determining Grit

I have two hones of, i believe, differing grits but after lapping them flat i am unsure which is more fine (finer?). They're fine enough to where i can't feel a difference. How can i determine which is which?


p.s. I'm not looking to determine the grit, just which is finer.

Do a bit of honing on a razor and look at the scratch pattern under magnification before and after would be one way .

Which one gives the smoother shave?

The smoother edge should come off the higher grit.
