Anyone familiar with a product called Schrade Hone Steel? I bought it with an Old Henry Gold Spike Knive I use to carry while hunting. It was sweet because it came in a leather sheath and was about 1 3/4" wide by 6" long and carried on your belt for re-sharpening while butchering big game.

The reason I ask is it has two sides on the bar one is coarser than the other. I am trying to figure out approximately what grit they would possibly be? I have used the hone steel to set bevel on one of my old razors before honing and I am wondering if it cuts enough or am I working my Norton 4k / 8k to hard because of it?

If the hone steel is not doing the job what would your opinion be a straight Norton 1k or the 620 / 1k combo? Do you really use 620 that often even when restoring?

Thanks,
