Thread: So how exactly are the Coticule stones which we all love so much produced?

So you want tourist gadgets? We have some little bout n°1 key rings and my sisters are making BBW neck laces as a hobby :-)

The nearest train station is located in Vielsalm. Our atelier is located at +/- 8 km from Vielsalm. We have a bus stop at +/- 400 m from our Atelier.

If you guys want to do a group visit one day, you are welcome!
The summer is the best time to do this, during winter it's to cold over here (as matter of fact I should say 'over there' since me and my family are living at 130 km from our atelier).
During winter our quarry is closed for 3 months.

Ah! So I guessed right about some tourist stuff

Many years ago in my college days I took a course where we basically tooled around the N.E of the U.S for a week visiting various geologic points of interest and one of the stops was the quarry where they produce granite , in Vermont. The stuff is just massive rock and they saw the stuff in huge blocks. Sometimes I think people have the notion that the coticules and japanese stones are mined the same way. People don't realize the these stones are mostly formed in thin lenses and veins and it takes a lot of work to get the stuff out and separate it from the surrounding rock. Thats why the stuff is so highly prized and expensive and the shapes are so often so irregular and the stones are usually small.
