i just bought the 2 combo stones separately and it would have saved me some cash if i had bought the kit as i now am thinking of the lapping stone, but my local store doesn't have the kit. it is a savings but be careful with shipping, stones are light, i almost hit buy a couple times before checking shipping and it was like $35 or so. just my experiences though. BTW the stones have worked great so far and i am a big newb. but there are enough reviews on here that will tell you Nortons are good starters that i won't go into detail.

Gee for a second I though we were getting a deal from the almighty one himself.

yes the price is good but as has been said check the shipping prices before you buy.

No shipping cost - at least I wasn't charged one. Also, these must have been popular because many places were sold out.

    Default Shapton 1200

Looks good to me. I'm a newbie also. I was wondering if the following is a good deal?

Shapton Ceramic Whetstone #12000 Price: $54.00

Japanese Knives And Restaurant Supplies: Shapton Ceramic Whetstone #12000

That's not a bad price but you should check out my site as folks tell me I have the best prices on Nortons around. You'll probably not need the 220/1000. For razors I recommend the 4k/8k followed by a coticule.
