Thanked: 0Can you hone a bowed blade?
Hi,
I recently purchased a brand new stainless steel Dovo straight razor and three different DMT diamond plates of varying grades of fine to extra extra fine.
I did a one lap test run on each plate just to get the gist of honing a blade but noticed something odd.
Placing water on each of plates allows me to see that on one side of the blade, the water is being pushed by the center of the blade and on the other side the water is being pushed by the ends of the blade.
On one side there is a clearly seen bevel but on the other side the bevel is very thin and only clearly seen on the heel and toe.
Is it possible to keep honing the blade so the bevel is equal on both sides?

I read on various posts that having pasted paddles can save one from having to hone a new blade. The blade is a little over 100 bucks so it's not really an expensive model but that range should make it a good shaver.
The DMT fine is 600 grit, the extra fine is 1200 grit, extra extra fine is 8000 grit. I also have two double sided paddles with diamond paste from 3 microns to 0.25 microns and initially just used the the paddles but they didn't work. So I went to the DMTs and that's when I could see the warped blade.
I'll see if I can get it replaced and get it professionally honed.Last edited by Gurthang; 11-12-2008 at 11:56 AM.

Without pics, I would also say it's a warped blade. SEND IT BACK ASAP.
