Starting to Learn
After about 3 weeks I noticed my razor was beginning to tug. I bout it shave ready in the classifieds. It really had a wonderful edge and provided a great shave. I purchased a paddle strop from Tony and some CrO pasted from Don and Lynn. Lynn gave me instructions on how to use the paste. After dutifully pasting the strop I did 20 laps on the pasted strop followed by 100 laps on the Illinois 827 hanging strop this past weekend and shaved with it today. Wow! What a difference. I also ordered a yellow coticule last week.
I am assuming that when the pasted strop doesn't sufficiently refresh the edge that I should put it on the coticule followed by the pasted strop, then the 100 laps on the hanging strop. I haven't yet purchased the 4000/8000. I am also assuming it will be awhile before I need to use that.
Are my assumptions correct?

You might get by fine with the pasted strops and the coticule you have coming. OTOH, do you have more then the one razor ? If I only had the one I would at least want a backup in case I messed the one up. Again if it was me I would get the 4/8 too and a few ebay specials to practice honing on. I am still learning but it has taken a mess of razors to practice on for me to get anywhere with it. YMMV.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

IIRC, a slurry on a coticule turns it from around 12k to around 6K-8K...so you could use it to do some more aggressive polishing. I remember a video (LXemergency?) where he had a slurry going and did a full bevel-set restore on a coticule bout!
Just my $0.02...that said, I have a coticule, 4k/8k and even a 220/1000 for real ebay specials, so what do I know!
