Thanked: 21Gonna spring for a coticule
After the W NY get together at Joe and Karen's, where my Waterville got touched up on the coticule much nicer than anything I could achieve on a pasted strop, I think I've got to supplement my Norton 4k/8k with a coticule.
What size should I go for? Is 6x2 big enough, or should I jump up to an 8x2 or 8x3?

I have an 8x3 and i think a 8x2 or 6x2 would be just fine. I may try to buy a 8x2 or 6x2 Kosher really soon.

Thanked: 95The coticule is a really nice stone, I've got one in 6x2 and I really like the size.

I like 8X2. The narrower surface is friendlier to smiling blades or warped spines. A natural is more $$ but you have both sides to work with. Get a slurry stone too while your at it.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I'm looking at getting one as well. For me, cost is a concern, and I think I'll likely get the 6 x 1.5 (I keep debating if that extra .5 inch in width is worth an extra $20). I can see how having the full 8 inch length would be nice; longer strokes = less time. But I really don't see any use in a three inch wide stone. This is my personal opinion based on my personal experiences. I do an X pattern, and even on my three inch wide King stone, I only use 1.5 to 2 inches of the width.
Oh, I should say I'm referencing the sizes and prices at theperfectedge.com. I don't know what you could get elsewhere of what it would cost.

Thanked: 351You'll have to pry the 8" x 3" from my cold dead hands... my Belgisher Brochen bout is another story. I keep thinking of getting a 6 x 2 but honestly, the 8 x 3 is so nice, I don't think I'd ever use the smaller one... but, if $$ were an issue, I'd not hesitate in buying a 2 x 6.
Regards

I like smaller stones. My Coticule is only 5 x 1.25".
If you like the 6x2. It's probably all you need. The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.
