    Default lapping

how would one lap this polishing hone. Assuming they already had a Norton 8k/4k and lap that with sandpaper.

Sandpaper should still work. Might take a while.

FWIW, try Buy Natural Polishing Water Stone, Water Stones - Woodcraft.com for the same thing at 3/4 the price.

+1, Get the 8X2 it's plenty big enough and cheaper yet. I would suggest a DMT D8C for lapping. You can get it at Craftsman Studio.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I've got one and lap mine with sandpaper. Mine didn't take too long either - about 20 minutes initially. I was torn between the 2 inch and three inch version, and ended up with the three. I use the side more than I use the wider section, actually, but the side of the 3 inch version is thicker than the two inch..... if I had it to do all over again, I'd probably go for the 2 inch wide stone.

That said, get some coarse wet/dry sandpaper, to lap with first. You'll end up with a scratchy surface, so move to finer paper to finish with. The coarse can make things happen faster, though.

The bigger hone is 8x2-3/4x1-1/4 and the smaller hone is 8x2x1. You can confirm this here.
