Touch up
My razor is starting to feel a bit "different" after a few shaves. I may be in need of a touch up. After searching around and going to the wiki, it seems like there is not a unique way to do it. I would like to learn what you do for touch ups. I could not find a post with this info in my limited search but if there is one, please let me know.

Any fine-grit hone should do the trick. I just got a coticule for that reason. But anything 8k or higher could be used to just touch up the edge, by doing only a few laps. What's your honing setup currently? Do you already have some hones, or are you looking to buy one as a toucher-up-er? I can't speak highly enough of a coticule....I love her! (Yes, my coticule is a women)

Thanked: 13245My first question would be how long has that razor been in use ????
The reason I ask is some people get 2 weeks out of an edge some get 6 months plus...
If yer a 2 week guy the coticule / barbers hone might be a better path for you a few quick laps some stropping and yer running smooth again...
6 month types of guys might be better with a pasted paddle strop for a quick re-touch every 2-3 months to keep the finest of edges going...
The difference is that a 2 week guys is going to eventually learn that heavier grinds and a sharp edge will tend to shave him better...
Where the 6 month guy will probably lean toward a super fine hollow and a wicked sharp edge....
Just me rambling on about a subject I love to talk about

I usually just do a few (5-8) laps on chrom. ox. When that fails to do the trick, I'll go to a coticule/chinese 12K, etc. For a touch up, you really just need your finisher - whatever that may be.
