Honed my First Wedge
Well using the tips that I've gotten from the gang here at SRP I have successfully honed an old 6/8 wedge that was dull as a butter knife.
Thanks all!!!!!!

Thanked: 102Wedge
Recently bought a John Rodgers wedge in excellent shape with ivory scales. Tight as a drum. Blade in good shape but dull.
I am use to a Wonderedge 5/8 and the feel between the two is like a the difference between a stilleto and a hatchet. Also the Rodgers is well balance.
I have no idea how to begin honing a wedge.
What did you do and how did you do it.
Thanks in advance.

Thanked: 13249Now that is something to be happy about, because wedges can be a little harder to hone than a nice straight hollow.....

1. tape the spine then heavy pressure circular motion on hone steel till I liked the looks of the bevel. Then same motion just lightening up till it would cut hair on arm. edge will cut hir nicely but feel jagged at this point.
2. then using norton 4k / 8k and agressive norton pyramid detailed at this wiki link Norton Pyramid Honing Guide - Straight Razor Place Wiki. moderate pressure first half of pyramid and lighter pressure second half but still more than just weight of razor.
3. now to the conservative pyramid listed on the wiki link above moving towards weight of razor only. finished with 30 laps on linen strop and 60 laps on plain leather wipes hair off face.
Very stoked at the results I feel like I can hone anything now. I hope this helps.
