    Default Solve My Curiousity

Well I just finished a search and I couldn't find where this has been asked yet. What grit do you figure a Norton Lapping Stone to be?

The reason I ask is while washing mine off the other night after a honing session I realized that the back of that stone since flat would probably be a very aggressive cutter for stubborn bevels? I usuallly use a piece of Schrade Hone Steel that I've had for years for my hunting knives and still have not been able to get an answer as to the approximate grit equivalent of the hone steel?

    Stupid?

It is roughly 220 grit. But it is fairly soft, I wouldn't think it could be used as a hone. Iit is designed to cut firm mud (hone matrix) not steel.

The Schrade Hone Steel could be anything, but is probably an Aluminum Oxide honing stone both sides being less than 1000 grit.

Thanks Tim, I thought that might be the case since the lapping stone is kinda porous feeling. I'll probably end up with a norton 1k since I like playing with the older razors.
