Thanked: 0Setting Bevel with DMT Extrafine Hone with perforated coating
Anyone ever use a DMT ultrafine hone (green block with perforated diamond coating) as a hone to set a bevel with? it's here: Amazon.com: DMT W6EP 6-Inch Diamond Tabletop Whetstone, Extra Fine Grit: Home Improvement
The hone is 1200 mesh, 9 micron. I’ve seen others here use the a similar DMT stone with the same grit rating like the DMT D8E 1200, with the only difference being that the DMT D8E 1200 stone has the continous diamond coating…ie., without perforations.
Would I damage the razor’s edge by using it on the hone with the perforations as seen in the amazon link?

Thanked: 0Here’s the thing. I already have the perforated hone. I bought it a while ago for my knife sharpening. I do not want to buy another hone, no matter how cheap it may be, especially when the only difference between that hone and the one I own is that the other hone is a continuous diamond surface, and my hone has perforations, which are there to collect the swarf.
I just want to know whether the perforated coating will damage my blade.

It works fine.
It is a DMT.
I like a tiny drop of dishwashing soap mixed in with the water. Light pressure is the key to not damaging your edge, not the perforations.

I sometimes use the small 600 DMT in my avatar to set bevels, works fine so far.
