Thanked: 1212I don't have a Norton, but my Chosera 10 K leaves a shinier bevel than any of my natural hones, including Coticules and a Nakayama. Even the Chosera 5K leaves a shinier bevel than the Nakayama and most of the Coticules.
I find there's not very much correlation between sheen and shaveability.

Try taking a dull piece of steel and rub it on an 8K and it will be like a mirror. What does this prove? I really don't know however the coticule will produce a superior shaving edge than the 8K.
I guess it means you can't go by appearances. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

I wondered the same thing... try making a light slurry with the artificial stones and you will get that same haze... at least I did with my norton 8k and spyderco and misc barber hones.
I guess the binding matrix in the naturals releases the particles a little easier? I dunno.

I had the EXACT same results tonight! I worked my way from 1k, 4k, 8k, then coticule with water. The edge after the 8k was really shiny, and i even looked at it under the 30x lens. But when I did several laps on the coticule with just water the mirror finish lessened, and looked a little coarser under the microscope.
But I find the shave after the coticule to be much better than just the 8k, so I agree with the others above, appearances can be deceiving.
