Thanked: 0Wedge
I prefer to use wedge razors and have many of them. I just sharpen them the same as the hollow ground razors. I never have any trouble. I think that they may take longer to sharpen but the teqnique I use is exactly the same as for the hollow ground.

With wedges or plain grinds I put the blade on the hone at a sharper angle (around 45 degrees), more than I do when honing full hollow grinds.

Thanked: 4942Normally I use a little more angle with a wedge on the stone. What I mean by that is that I still use the X pattern but instead of the razor being at 90 degrees through out the stroke, I keep it at about 45 degrees. The most problems that people have with wedges is that alot of them bought have been poorly ground which can easily be seen by looking at the spine. When you see this, you will have the dickens honing one whether you have honed thousands as I have or just a few like most people. Lynn

45 degree angle
Lynn,
You speak of the 45 degree angle. Two questions: 1. is that with the handle leading or the top edge leading? 2. How about on the strop? Do you keep it at a 45 degree angle there also?
